Is it safe to presume we won't get any Western release dates for the remasters or anything else for that matter?
Yeah, expect nothing in that regard. TGS is just for Japan/Asia. Its actually a big surprise we even got an official confirmation and subbed trailer for Judges Eyes already. But I have doubts we'll get anything on the remasters yet.

Thanks. Some Yakuza 4-5 footage would satisfy me, then.

Platinum #100 yakuza kiwami. I couldnt choose if nioh or kiwami would be my 100th plat but went with kiwami in the end.
i love those 2 games but the kiwami plat is more rare so i went with that one.
Excited to start 0 tonight but i was wondering if i should go for the 100pct trophy on my first playthrough or on the legend playthrough? As nothing carries over to my legend playthough i m not sure what to do here. In kiwami everything carried over so legend was a walk in the park apart from the car chase.

Spent all evening with the Caberet Club in 0 tonight. Good mini game - the hand signals are a nice touch that adds a lot of flavor.

It’s amazing this huge, time consuming mini game opens up right as you have a blind girl in a wearhouse.

Fishing? Shooting pool? Fine.

But Running a months-long campaign to take over the entire city? Sorry, Makoto!

Welcome to Yakuza. Where you always have something super important to do, only to blow that off and spend all day: Managing a club/playing Mahjong/playing arcade games/romancing hostesses/doing random side content etc. (delete as appropriate). 6 subtly jabs at you to continue to the story, more so than any of the other games I played. Plus I really wanted to see how that game ended so I ended up with a boat load of side content to do after the main game was finished.

I can’t believe I finished Yakuza 0 and Kiwami back-to-back and was still left jonesing for more. It took everything I had to not start Kiwami 2 right away. Focusing on Spider-man for now, and then maybe Shadow of the Tomb Raider before jumping into Kiwami 2.

But man does Yakuza call to me.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder I guess. Though finishing 3 recently has me wanting 4's remaster immediately. Thankfully TGS starts tomorrow, hoping for a date for the remaster so I can pre order it.

I got a bit burnt out after playing Zero and Kiwami back to back, but I'll certainty come back for Kiwami 2. I just need a palate cleanse before returning to Kamurocho.

Hopefully I'll be able to nab it on a sale during the holidays.

Finally got a chance to play the Judge Eyes demo, and I am 100% in on importing this bad boy day one. Private eyes and lawyers make for some of my favourite stories, so having the RGG Studio team get a chance at a PI/law-themed Yakuza is a dream come true for me. I can't wait to see how the investigations and courtroom scenes play out.

You just know we are getting a badass/hilarious plot twist while in the courthouse at the end of the game. I absolutely can't wait!

This is going to be goooood.

Also I think Yagami might have the best Yakuza dramatic disrobe yet. Usually they just tear off a jacket and shirt, but Yagami went from full-on hobo outfit to stylish jeans and jacket in one smooth motion. Like, he literally changes his pants and shaves his beard. Incredible.

Judge Eyes is just a VR Simulation confirmed. At the end it gets revealed that you were playing Kiryu sitting at home playing Judge Eyes the whole time. Mind. Blown.

For real though: I loved it that scene so much I laughed so hard while going "yeeeeeah!"

I'm still just so stunned by the whole Judge Eyes situation. Announcing it out of the blue three months before release, with a demo ready to go that same day, and it looks absolutely incredible to boot.

RGG Studio is so reliable about getting Heat moves in wherever they can fit them, not just in combat but in wonderful, stupid moments like Kiryu's taxi racing or the Cabaret Club minigame. You just know they're going to have Heat moves when you're cross-examining a witness, or OBJECTing to whatever slimy stuff a prosecutor tries to pin on you, and just thinking about it is getting me hyped through the roof.

Yeah - I know that's part of Yakuza's whole vibe and also isn't unique to this franchise, since plenty of games let you pause saving the world to fuck about in a casino.

But in Y0 Chapter 7 it just feels especially egregious, since you have a touching, heartfelt scene with Makoto and then you're like "OK I'm going to go to work now - see you soon" but then the NEXT main mission is the lengthy Caberet Club tutorial, with the implication that each time you open your club that's another evening.

Feels different than hitting up the batting cages or arcade.

It just made me laugh as I opened up my club time after time. Sorry, Makoto!

Some Yakuza Online trailers have finally been dropped! And based on this, the team is clearly having fun with it. I don't want to spoil the trailers, but I gotta say, they're finally giving the people what they want with that Haruka bit.
And that Kiryu reveal at the end... He's officially become "Legend" status in this universe, hah.

I jumped into the series with 0, and I loved that one. But, I thought Kiwami was so much weaker. I think the problem is that they didn't devote enough time to develop the side characters. Like, they were telling me I should care about all these people, but they didn't appear enough in the story to leave an impression. Nishiki is a huge part of 0, but he really only shows up 3 times in the story and doesn't say a hell of a whole lot. At the end, I didn't care about the majority of the characters that were at the last confrontation. I didn't know the politician guy, the Omi alliance guy, Nishiki, or Yumi. I barely knew any of them. Compare that to 0 where they did a great job of fleshing out all these side characters. Kuze, Makoto, Shibusawa, Awano, Doujima, Tachibana, and all the other side characters. All of them fascinating and captivating characters. Yakuza had none of that. It almost spoils the experience, like Godfather Pt. 2. Sure, a good movie, but its existence takes a bit away from the masterpiece that was the first film.

Not directly comparable, I know, because Kiwami is a near shot-for-shot remake of a decade+ year old game but still.

Also, it dawned on me halfway through that Kiryuu is a superhero. He's strong, just, brave, has an unwavering code, and protects the weak.

Interesting, so it's just a mishmash of different time periods? Wasn't the big guy the Chinese guy from Y0? Does this also mean that the battles can feature multiple players? Or is this just a turn-based gacha game type of thing where you have a party of Yakuza characters?

You're not wrong, but not only was it a PS2 game, it was also the first Yakuza game they'd ever done, and the first really deep storytelling game I think they'd done. They've learned a lot over the past decade, with Yakuza 0 being the culmination of that.

Awesome to see Haruka finally kicking some butt outside of dancing. Very surprised to see Kiryu at the end, though. I actually never looked it up, but I guess the story of Yakuza Online takes place before Yakuza 6? After all Haruka is wearing her idol outfit.

Edit: Actually, no. Because Kiryu is in prison in the timeframe between 5 and 6. Ok, I'm officially lost here, haha. Maybe there's just having fun, playing around with timelines and the canon and whatnot.

I think they're mostly have fun with it. I'm guessing the stuff that happens in Yakuza Online isn't canon, either, and I believe shadowman also mentioned earlier how the story that Online follows starts after 6, but splinters off of what Shin will be covering. If that's true, it gives them free reign to go fan-service crazy and have everyone dream-team-up together. Hence Haruka fighting. That's also why Haruka looks surprised when she sees Kiryu (because she thinks he's dead, of course. Everyone else looks like they know, though, hah), and why they illuminate him like he's some sort of divine being.

I don't think the FMV trailer is an actual thing that happens in the game, rather just promoting characters you can have in your team. As I don't see Shin actually giving us that particular version of Haruka (pity, I love that voice change she gets. She means business). Online will let you recruits tons of past characters (several whom are dead) but won't play a part in the actual story. That's what interviews have stated anyway.

I did love that FMV trailer so much though, its pure hype. Can't wait to see more of it this week.

As for the Judges Eyes news. I am very pleased. FV is a fantastic fighter and Motor Raid is something I've never even played. Glad we are not just getting recycled stuff from past games in the arcade.

Yeah, that makes sense using the ending of Yakuza 6 as a entry point for Yakuza Online and then just going ham with it. I guess doing anything different would just complicate things for Shin Ryu ga Gotoku's story.

KHH Subs has subtitled the teaser trailer for RGG Online:

As I've said before, I really like the sound of his story, no family, friends or even cash. Be interesting to see where his story goes. And as was reiterated by the series staff - Online and Shin RGG will share the same basic story to a point, but then diverge off at a certain point so both games endings will be different. I can't help wonder which point it is that will have the two stories split.

So, with some of the new footage and info on Judges Eyes filtering out slowly, I tried the demo again mainly just for the combat portions. Managed to pull off a few more unique (or at least, I've not seen them before) EX (heat) moves including:

Grabbing an enemy near an openable door (Cafe Alps in this case) and pulling off a heat move that knocks them through the door before drop kicking them. Awesome!
Using a large item/weapon on a downed enemy will now pull off a hilariously over the top move where you throw the item up into the air, then kick it onto the downed enemy.
Your usual "smash enemy into a wall" heat move has been upgraded when you have multiple enemies surrounding you to pull off a follow up move that hits several enemies now. Which is awesome.
There's a few other moves I've still not pulled off, but I'm loving the amount of moves at your disposal so far. The more I play it, the better it gets.

I hate how the first print of Kiwami 2 is seemingly only available as a steelbook in Europe. It's the sole reason I still don't own the game. I fucking despise steelbooks. Same goes for Yakuza 6. Only the premium edition and Essence of Art Edition available. I don't want the artbook, not even for free.

I am currently playing Xenoblade 2 and RDR2 is coming in a month so I can wait but it sucks anyway.

I'm in the same camp. Still waiting for the standard edition of Kiwami 2. It's the first Yakuza game I haven't supported at launch since Yakuza 2 on PS2.

30 hours into Yakuza 0. About 30% CP. Been doing quite a bit of Real Estate and Caberet Club, but I’ve been ignoring most of the other mini games. Never touched mahjong, any of the gambling, billiards, fishing, slot cars.

I’m in Chapter 10 and I think I’m entering into “wrap it up” mode. Probably just going to blast through the story over the next few nights then I’ll go back and finally learn how to play some of these mini games I’ve been ignoring.

Definitely give the slot cars a go. The side stories that are linked to it are fantastic. I love Mahjong as well (my favourite mini game ever) but its definitely one that needs to "click" with users, as it can be a bit imposing at first. Billiards is something that only just recently clicked for me, I've been playing Yakuza 3 and that game really forces you to get good on it, and that finally forced me to learn how to play really well. I actually enjoy it now!

Meanwhile, intrepid Daily Bugle reporter gachapin snapped this footage of that webbed menace threatening the good people of Kamurocho:

its part of a Judge Eyes side story, I'm going to love this game aren't I?!

I'm not a fan of the slot cars gameplay (that music in the config screen is ace though). Side stories on it are okay, but mid-tier compared to the really good ones. Billiards is great and the physics simulation seems fairly good. (I saw recently a pool game in Rogue Galaxy Outlaws and the physics were terrible)

But yo, could we keep the Judge Eyes content behind spoilers please? I don't want to have played the game before I actually play the game.

Well that's not true at all. Some companies (cough cough Atlus) spoiler major parts of their games in trailers. They're still spoilers. This side story will no longer be a surprise because I've just seen it. But if that's the measuring line for spoilers in this thread then I'll have to stay out from now on.

Willfully released content for public consumption by definition is not a spoiler. It literally cannot be.

If you don't agree that's fine and all, but others in no way should have to conform to your expectations. If you want to effectively live under a rock as far as coverage of the game is concerned, you do you man. Sega is however intentionally releasing this to have people consume and discuss it, so if you have an issue with people doing so that's your problem not really ours to have to work around.

Me personally I am not watching any more trailers for the title. However I'm not going to sit here and try and tell people not to post about it if they do choose to watch them. It's supremely arrogant to presume I have that right to tell people how they should and should not discuss content put out with the expectation that people /will/ consume and discuss it.

I had zero context for the clip. It looked like some dude had captured a side story from the demo. If this was released by Sega directly then fine. That sucks, but okay.

The above clip was part of just one side story that was shown at TGS. If you don't want me posting Yakuza stuff in a Yakuza thread then I'm outta here. Its not as if I spoiled the final boss here...

I didn't say not to post it, just put it in a spoiler tag. But since this is TGS stuff, it's not a big deal. Sorry for the confusion.

Was there a Sega stream showcasing Judge Eyes during TGS or was it just the Sony Conference.
There were streams each day for the Yakuza stuff (Online and Judge Eyes). Long trailers for Judge should emerge this week (hopefully) showing more of the story and gameplay (and as with every story trailer, it'll be spoilery I bet, so watch out ;) ). Over on the discord channel there were some cool vids and screenshots posted. Looks like there might be a retro game playspot (as in, really retro, before Space Harrier levels of retro). I'm actually most intrigued about that part, as the detail in the place is just beautiful and its somewhere I can see me spending tons of time on.
Also shown off on streams were Drone Racing, side stories, VR stuff. That's on top of the confirmation of the two Club Sega arcade games we got last week.

Only thing that was absent was Yakuza 4 remaster date. I wonder if those will just appear nearer the time, seems Sega sees no real need to promote them that much as new. 3 only got an interview or two, one trailer, a release date and that was it.

Yeah, I gotta hop on the discord more often.

Also, I'm really excited to get those remasters over here. I passed on importing Y3 and will probably wait on Y4 / Y5 because I can currently still play the original releases, though I will import Judge Eyes. But damn, it's going to be nice playing through all of those in 60fps.

Even though I prefer Yakuza 3 over Yakuza 5, Y5 is going to be a real treat in 60fps.
